Margaret Frances Jackson Cutts passed away peacefully on April 28, 2022, at 97 years old in Brandon, FL. Her daughter, son, two grandchildren, and a niece were by her side as she left her earthly body. She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Warren G. Cutts, Jr., who died in 2008. She was born in Powder Springs, GA on June 14, 1924, she graduated from Marietta High School in Marietta, GA, and Tift College in Forsyth, GA in 1945. Margaret had a Bachelors of Science in Biology, and many would agree a “Master’s in Southern Hospitality”, welcoming people from all over the world into her home. She will be remembered for her positive outlook on life, love of people, and sweet smile; among many other positive things, Margaret contributed to the people in her life.
Margaret met her husband, who went by Pete, on January 1, 1944, outside a grocery store on a blind date set up by her mother and Pete’s father. Pete told her she was about the cutest girl he had ever seen. They were married by Pete’s father, Warren G. Cutts, Sr, on July 29, 1945 and had six children over the course of their lives together.
Margaret became a teacher after her six children grew up, and was a whiz with math. Pete and Margaret lived in Boca Raton, FL for nearly 30 years prior to moving to Seffner, FL in 1989.
Margaret’s faith was the center of her life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brandon. Not only did she regularly attend, but every week she prepared a lesson for her adult Sunday School class, where she taught a class of senior adult women for many years. She also helped with 5th and 6th grade GA’s for 11 years and was involved with spiritual mothering for several years. Margaret financially supported a missionary family in the Ivory Coast and a Christian family in the Philippines.
Margaret enjoyed spending time at her cabin in the North Georgia Mountains and especially loved seeing the changing leaves in the fall. Margaret loved being outdoors and cared very much for our environment. She financially supported the Appalachian Trail as well as many other organizations: Audubon and Sierra Club, to name a few. In many ways, she is the first environmentalist her children remember. She often planned bird watching hikes for her children and others. When her children were younger she always made sure they had a bag to clean up after picnics, and even cleaned up long stretches of beaches as a family when they would go swimming in Boca Raton, FL. Margaret instilled a sense of stewardship in the land to her children before it became a “popular” thing to do. This sense of stewardship has been passed on to future generations as part of her legacy. Her youngest grandson is making it his goal to hike through the Appalachian Trail. He is currently on the trail where he has hiked from Ga to VA and plans to make it to Maine by August 2022. She would be so proud. She also was very involved in scouting and has one son and five grandsons who are Eagle Scouts.
Margaret always had a story or a memory to share and her home was always filled with family, friends, and laughter. She always seemed happiest when all her children and grandchildren could come together. Her eyes lit up when she talked about her family. She was a superb cook. Everyone loved to come to her home and enjoy her delicious home cooked meals. Margaret felt blessed by her family and her grandchildren were her crown of glory here on earth. She once confided that “we all have independent spirits and have developed in different ways in different areas but we all have strong family values.”
Margaret is survived by her six children, Tom, Amy, Cindy, Jeff, Bill, and Bea; ten grandchildren - and six great-grandchildren.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.StowersFH.com for the Cutts family.
