

Margarita Martinez Escobedo was the third daughter born to Apolonio and Arminda Escobedo on October 6, 1938 in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas; Mexico. Margarita met and later married her childhood sweethheart, Guillermo Martinez on March 27, 1957 and had 5 children.
Margarita's passion above all was her family and her children, but she also had a passion for music and singing. At an early age, her father began to train her voice. She participated in many contest winning her first at the young age of 6. She continued on, singing on many tv and radio shows. Years later she was offered a contract with a record company in Ciudad Victoria which would take her away from her home, family and most importantly the love of her life. She turned it down to become the wife of Guillermo Martinez. Her home was always filled with music and the sound of her beautiful voice. Margarita’s passion for music led her to compose a special song for each of her grandchildren. She was an extended mother and grandmother to many children in the neighborhood and was loved by everyone who knew her.
Margarita also loved the Lord and was once a worship leader at St. Paul Church in Chicago, IL. She was an example for her children in loving and following the Lord.
Margarita is preceded in death by her parents, Apolonio and Arminda Escobedo and by her sister, Martha Gonzalez-Escobedo. She is survived by her husband, Guillermo Martinez and her 5 children: Guillermo Martinez Jr, Maria de Jesus Rivera, Cristina Martinez, Gerardo Martinez and Elizabeth Rodriguez, (13) Grandchildren, and (9) Great-grandchildren and (1) great-great grandson.
