Michael W. Grammer, 69, passed away on Sunday, January 10th, 2016 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Mike was at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 20, 1946 in Murphysboro, IL to Charles V. and Esther K. (Leach) Grammer.
After earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, he worked in the electrical power industry and managed the construction of power generation facilities during the 70’s and 80’s. He relocated to Florida in 1989 and was a partner in a construction management firm specializing in industrial construction projects. In 1996, he and his business partner purchased SMCI, a metal fabrication and machine shop located in Lakeland, FL. He was the President/Owner until he sold the company and retired in 2012.
Mike loved boating, fishing, kayaking, and his 4 o’clock happy hours. He was an avid hockey fan and a long-time season ticket holder of his favorite sports team - the Tampa Bay Lightning. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends…especially his Goldendoodles (his “girls”) and grandchildren.
Mike is survived by his wife of 26 years, Debbie; his beloved “girls”, Maggie and Lily; two sons, Mike (Julia) Anderson and Joel (Melissa) Anderson; daughter, Krista Grammer; brother, Bill Grammer and sister, Karolyn Bishop; four grandchildren, Keely, Kaden, Olivia and Emma; and several nieces and nephews.
A private Happy Hour will be held for his family and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (via CampGrammer.org) or to LifePath Hospice.
