Orlando Lemon, aka as "The Great Man" by locals for his amazing achievements in life, was a loving Father, painter, world traveller and renaissance man. He was also an animal lover, a sculptor, historian, USMC marine, philosopher, dreamer and civil engineer. And above it all, he was an amazing Father and a family man.
He came to America in the early 1950s and found the American dream. He studied civil engineering at Louisiana State University and paid his entire college tuition himself by working part-time jobs. He also joined the Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Orlando Lemon also travelled around the world and worked as a civil engineer for several American companies in Algeria, Vietnam and Spain. He was one of the main people in charge of the Oil Refinery project in Bethioua, Algeria, and oversaw the performance of over 200 engineers.
Orlando Lemon's dream was also to create a mini-zoo and theme park for his children. We had goats, chickens, pigs, a donkey, and a baby bull. He also built a large stonehedge-cave structure and a tree house just for his children. Thanks to him we learned to appreciate wildlife and animals. He also taught us to never stop dreaming.
He returned to college in his 60s to earn a Masters in Special Education from the University of South Florida. This achievement taught us that age should never be a barrier to achieve our dreams.
Despite his achievements, he maintained a warm and humble demeanor, and always beamed with a big smile at anyone who ran into him.
And finally, he wrote his memoirs so we can read about our childhoods, his own upbringing and his amazing travels.
There will never be a man like our Dad. He was special. Gifted. Caring. Loving. And he will live forever in our hearts.
He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his three grown children: Marisa Quinta, Alejandro Lemon and Gisele Lemon.
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Ashton Quinta, Brandell Quinta, and Hannah De Pessemier,
He is also survived by his great grandchildren: Magnolia Quinta and Liliana Quinta.
