Roberto was born on October 11, 1960 to Andres and Generosa Cruz in Brooklyn, N.Y. After graduating from Automotive High School in 1978, he immediately joined the United States Air Force in July, 1978.
He met Maria del Carmen as a youth, and they wed in 1979; they did not have any children.
After retiring from the United States Air Force in November, 1994, he began his new private sector career in the telecommunications industry. He last worked for DZS, Inc., which had merged with many of the companies that Roberto had previously worked for, so in general he mostly worked for this organization most of his post U.S.A.F. retirement years.
Roberto spent his time with his wife, Maria del Carmen, and their dogs when she was healthy visiting family, friends, going out to eat and to the movies, as well going to baseball games. Roberto’s favorite pastime since he was a kid was baseball. He was an avid follower of the Tampa Bay Rays. He spent his latter years caring for his wife who recently passed away in December, 2021 due to complications of her Advance Multiple Sclerosis and pneumonia.
Roberto was predeceased by his mother, Generosa Cruz, and his brother Andres Cruz, Jr. (Andy). He is survived by his father, Andres Cruz, Sr., and his two brothers, George and Adrian.
A visitation for Roberto will be held Monday, March 14, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, 2323 West Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL 33511, followed by a funeral service from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
