Shiney Simon was born on October 28th 1965, to late Simon and late Annamma Poothara as their youngest daughter. She did her schooling at St. Marcellina’s Girls High School and BCM college, Kottayam. She then went to Ranchi, with her brother Thomas Poothara to do her nursing program and got a degree from there. She worked as a nurse in Calcutta where she had an opportunity to see Mother Theresa.
She then moved back to Kerala and worked at Caritas for some time before getting married to Sajimon Karukakuttil son of Thomas and Marykutty Karukakuttiyil on January 6th 1994. She then moved to Bangalore with her husband. She worked at St. John’s Medical College and Hospital for 16 years. She gave birth to her daughters Merin in April of 1995 and Amin in May of 2002 at Bangalore. In April of 2011, she moved to the United States with her family and settled in Valrico, Florida near her siblings Raju and Jolly Vettuparapureth and Babu and Ancy Poothara. She started her work as a nurse at Hawthorne Village then Tampa General Hospital, and lastly at Solaris Healthcare.
Although she seemed to be a very quiet and private person, people close to her can tell she was a fun loving and jovial friend, caring sister, romantic wife, and the coolest mom. She put God and her family before all else. She used to go to church every day until she couldn’t anymore, even then she made it a point to watch the Holy Mass first thing in the morning. She made sure her children were bought up in the same Catholic upbringing she and her husband had. She loved to cook, travel, and spent time with her family. She also enjoyed watching movies and playing badminton.
Her biggest wish was to see her daughters get married and take care of her grandchildren. On July 29th 2019, she got to see her daughter Merin get married to Sanu Abraham son of Abraham and Valsala Kaimoolayil.
In November 2019 the death of her mom Annamma Poothara, left her devastated and heartbroken. Later in October 2020 she got diagnosed with ALS, and her world was shattered once again. But, through all these difficult times she never let go of hope. In May 2021 she was told that her wish of becoming a grandmother is about to be fulfilled and she was the happiest person ever. She was very independent and stayed strong until mid-November 2021, when she reached a point where she couldn’t do anything by herself. On the evening of December 21st 2021 she got admitted to TGH due to low oxygen level, and was aware and responsive. On December 22nd 2021 she spent time with her sister Jolly, her husband Saji and children Merin, Sanu, and Amin by her bedside. On December 23rd 2021 around 9:00am she left this world and followed the narrow road to His kingdom well prepared, happy and peaceful.
