He was a dedicated husband to Judy M. O’Kane for 47 wonderful years and a caring father to Thomas W. O’Kane, Jr. (Monica), Lissette N. Reynolds (Robert), Michael M. O’Kane (Kelly), and Danielle K. Kiefer (Jeremiah). He was also a grandfather to, Desirey, Destiney (David), Timothy, Tylor, David, Shayna (Louie), Gabriella, Tori, Luke, and Cameron, and a great-grandfather to Luna, Angel, Fernando, and Solana.
Tom cherished his childhood memories of being a Boy Scout, playing sports, and spending time with friends. He was raised in a religious environment and attended Gordon Tech, an all-boys Catholic High School. As a devout Christian, he held a deep love for the Lord Jesus Christ. Among his proudest family moments were marrying the love of his life Judy, the birth of his children, and witnessing their successes in life. Tom’s most memorable life’s achievements included serving in the USAF during the Vietnam War, completing three tours over eight years and reached the rank of an E-5/Staff Sergeant where he worked on the F4-Phantom as a Weapons Maintenance Technician. After returning to his position at Superior Coffee in Chicago, he fell in love with Judy Vega, who also worked there. Starting from the ground up, he earned the respect of both his colleagues and management. He later obtained an Associate's Degree in computers and worked as a Systems Analyst for over 35 years at various reputable companies. In 2005, Tom, Judy, and Danielle relocated from the Chicago area to Georgia, eventually settling in Valrico, Florida, in 2008. Over the years, Tom enjoyed taking over 50 cruises with family, dining out weekly at favorite restaurants, and exploring new culinary spots throughout Florida. Tom had a passion for reading, often being recognized at bookstores, and he occasionally built model airplanes. Most evenings were spent with Judy watching their favorite TV shows while indulging in chocolate and strawberry snacks. He loved sports, particularly supporting Chicago teams, although he later became a fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but never surpassing his loyalty to the Chicago Bears!
Dad, we will all miss you greatly. You were our reliable support during tough times, and someone we could always depend on. Some of your best qualities were your honesty, being straightforward, communicated your thoughts clearly without passing judgment, and consistently offered us wise counsel. You ensured we made our choices after careful consideration and always gave your all and always stood up for what is right. Family always came before yourself and the level of patience you displayed is a rare find. You will always be in our hearts and one day we will all be together again …
