Yolanda Elsa Martinez, beloved mother, caregiver, and friend to many, passed away peacefully in Tampa, Florida, at the age of 92. Born in Corozal Town, Belize, Yolanda later made Tampa her home, proudly becoming a U.S. citizen and raising her family in the house she and her husband built in 1960.
Before having children of her own, Yolanda opened her heart as a foster mother, caring for little ones with compassion and devotion. She deeply loved children and dedicated her life to nurturing and uplifting those around her.
A woman of strong Catholic faith, she was consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and served for many years as a Salesian Cooperator at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. She volunteered tirelessly—helping with picnics, preparing linens, organizing raffles, and supporting parish needs with joy and humility.
Yolanda was both mother and father while her husband served at sea as a U.S. Merchant Marine and Coast Guard veteran. Later in life, she embraced her entrepreneurial spirit and became a vintage merchandise retailer, while also creating beautiful handmade baby clothing as a skilled seamstress and embroiderer. She loved music, dancing, celebrations, and was known for her generous heart and her spirited Scorpio strength. Many who knew her affectionately called her “Mama.”
Survivors
Yolanda is survived by her daughter, Yolanda Veronica Martinez, and Yolanda’s wife, Erica Lynn Knoblock; her son, Charles A. Martinez Jr.; and her brother, Gus Pasos Jr., and his wife, Julie Pasos.
