Today, a beautiful Angel is flying high among us. Alexis Patricia Roung, in her 6th year, passed awayThursday September 2, 2010, peacefully at McMaster Children’s Hospital in Hamilton. She was surrounded by her loving family. She leaves behind her mommy, Stephanie Roung (Degelman) and daddy Chris Roung and her big brother Carter. She will be dearly missed by her grandparents, Don andPatricia Roung and Frank and Patricia Degelman. She was a special niece to Dawn (Scott) Karn, Jodie Booy (Josh), Aaron (Shannon) Degelman and Eric Degelman. Cousin to Taylor Roung, Jordan Karn, Hailey Booy and Lilli Degelman. She will also be missed by all those who help care for her especially Pat Flesher,Susan Purdham, Jen Roloson and Deb Kool. Alexis had a disease called Mitochondrial Disease. There is no cure and we will fight to find one, in Alexis’ memory. Alexis was the inspiration for MitoCanada. MitoCanada is a registered charity with the goal of raising awareness, providing support and funding research of Mitochondrial Disease. Alexis was the strongest little girl you would ever meet who faced each day with amazing strength. She gave everyone so much love and everyone who met her fell in love
with her. So much good has come to the world because Alexis lived. Alexis wouldn’t have had the life that she did without the help of her amazing doctors & nurses at McMaster University Medical Centre, especially Dr. Tarnopolsky and his staff, Nurse Laura Bainbridge and Dr. O’Toole. We also thank CCAC and Dr. McNeil and Nurse Nancy Morbrook from the Stedman Community Hospice Outreach for the exceptional care Alexis received while at home. The family will receive friends at THORPE BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL, 96 West Street on Sunday September 5th and Monday September 6 th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, 133 Murray Street on Tuesday September 7th at 1 pm. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. In Alexis’ memory, the family would appreciate donations to MitoCanada (online at www.mitocanada.org) or the Stedman Community Hospice.
