Julia Snowden

Born on November 27, 1922, she was the last of her generation of the Snowden family which lived on Campbell Street. The eldest of two daughters born to the late Marie Louise Snowden (Parham), originally of Petersburg, Virginia, U.S.A. and the late Charles W. F. Snowden of Brantford, Julia was always from Brantford, but well-traveled. For many years a singer in a local choral group which travelled widely throughout Canada and Europe, she fondly recalled her trips abroad. Julia loved the performing arts and enjoyed attending the local theatre as well as attending productions in Toronto. She was and always will be remembered for her generosity, sunny disposition, graceful demeanor and sense of old-fashioned fun. Whenever asked how she was keeping, she would often reply in an understated way, “Well I can’t complain”. But if the inquiry was made on a summer day with the sun shining bright and wind blowing in the trees, she might occasionally reply “Why, I’m fine as wine in summertime... and twice as sweet!” Julia lived a long and full life on Campbell Street before moving to the RiverView Terrace Retirement home. The family wishes to thank the caring staff at RiverView Terrace for making Julia’s time there both comfortable and welcoming as well as safe and healthy particularly in these challenging days. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Ruth Victoria and her brothers Charles Edward, William James, Samuel Earl, George Franklin and John Arthur. She leaves her niece Geraldine and two nephews, Ian (Susan) and Marcus (Pearl), along with grand nieces Catherine, P. Amaya, Brooke, Kaitlyn and Lily and a grand nephew, John Thomas. She would not want anyone mourning her passing: she would grimace at this and suggest instead, with a warm hand placed gently on your arm for emphasis, that you each celebrate your blessings and enjoy your lives to the fullest.
