With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Lucia on Monday November 12, 2012 at the age of 83 years. Lucia is predeceased by her husband Alberto (1997) and parents Salvina and Nunzio Faiella. Left to mourn broken-hearted are four daughters and their families: Delia (Cesare) Berardi, Cathy (Gino) Molinaro, Antonietta (John) Volpe and Sylvia. Lucia is the cherished Gramma of Robert (Daniella) and Diana Berardi, Albert and Olivia Molinaro, Claudia and Paul Volpe. She is the special Great-Gramma of Matteo Berardi. Lucia also leaves behind her loving brothers, Fabiano (Betilde) and Vittorio (Diane), sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Donatella DiRamio (late Benedetto), Domenica and Guido Pietroleonardo, Maria and Gilberto DiMeo, and many nieces and nephews. Lucia followed her husband Alberto and immigrated to Canada from Prezza, l’Aquila, Italy in November 1952 in order to provide a better life for their family. Lucia and Alberto also sponsored many other family members to Canada so that their families could be together in their newly adopted country. Lucia was a very humble, kind, giving, generous, caring and compassionate woman who dedicated her life to her family. The importance of family was of extreme significance to Lucia who was overjoyed when surrounded by those she adored. She was an avid cook and baker who delighted all with her special creations and she enjoyed spending time nurturing her garden. She took pleasure in sharing her knitting and sewing skills with those she loved as is evident by the countless beautiful pieces of handiwork she created and gifted.
Lucia was a woman of strong faith in God who valiantly confronted her struggle against cancer. She was a remarkable woman who left us a legacy of love, service to others and adherence to the teachings of Christ. We will always treasure her unconditional love and support. Ti amiamo molto carissima mamma e sarai sempre nei nostri cuori.
The family will receive friends at the “THORPE BROTHERS’ FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL”, 96 West Street on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 133 Murray Street on Thursday November 15th at 11 am. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Stedman Community Hospice or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
