Maria Zelinda Petrella Lashko

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and friend on Thursday, July18, 2013. Maria (or Nonna as she is affectionately known) is the widow of Lawrence Lashko. She is survived by her son Peter Lashko (Manuella Iotta); daughter Natalie McAlonen (Michael); dear granddaughters, Layna Lowe (Gavin), Samantha McAlonen (Kyle Banks), Loretta (Matt Serallegri) and Sydney Lashko; and her cherished great grandson, Harper. She was preceded in death by her parents, Giuseppe and Loreta Petrella, sister Giovanina Pace (late Vittorio) and brother Gaetano Petrella (Eliza). Maria is also survived by her sister Nancy DiCesare (late Vittorio); brothers Antonio Petrella (Erminia) and Salvator Petrella (Yolanda) and many nieces and nephews.

Maria was a woman of many gifts and talents who especially enjoyed gardening and cooking. There is no better gnocchi than Nonna’s! She welcomed everyone into her home with her warm, happy smile and of course something to eat. Family was Nonna’s first priority and the care, attention and generosity she shared with them will always be remembered.

Friends will be received at THORPE BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 96 West Street on Monday, July 22, 2013 from 7:00-9:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 133 Murray Street, Brantford on Tuesday July 23, 2013 at 11:00 am. Interment to follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
