It is with deep sadness that we announce that Maria Risi has passed away surrounded by her loving family at Brierwood Gardens in her 87th year. Beloved wife of the late Virgilio. Loving mother of Rosemary (Fraser) Yeats, Angela (Doug George), Gino (Bobbie-Sue) and Mario. Nonna to Gabbie, Milly, Risi, Virgil and Robbie. Survived by siblings Rosa, Lucia, Livio , Aldo and predeceased by her brother Luigi. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Brierwood Gardens for their compassionate care of our mother. Maria and her husband Virgilio opened Maria’s Pizzeria and Spaghetti House in 1968 at 428 Colborne Street.
The family will receive friends at the “ Thorpe Brothers’ Funeral Home and Chapel” 96 West Street on Monday April 18th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. with Parish prayers at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 133 Murray Street on Tuesday April 19th at 11:00 am. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Paris. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Lung Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
