Richard Fennema

Passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 30th 2025, at St. Josephs Lifecare Centre, Brantford, in his 93rd year. Richard was born in Marrum Friesland, Netherlands on July 24th 1933, and immigrated to Canada on September 22nd 1947. Richard was pre-deceased by his wife Bertha (Van Wieren) Fennema of 57 years in 2016. Loved father of Audrey (Ian) Willson, George (Janice), Derrick, Martin, Anna (Richard) Lafontaine, and Gerald (Theresa). Proud grandpa of 15 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Survived by his sister Ada Stavinga, sisters-in-law Joanne, Irene Zwart, and Jannie Van Wieren, and brothers-in-law Bill Van Wieren, and Klaas Van Wieren. Predeceased by his sisters; Sylvia Dejong and Hilda Malda and brothers Peter and Jack. Also predeceased by his sister-in-law Rita Van Wieren, and brothers-in-law, Wilfred Dejong, Earl Malda, Herman Van Wieren and Peter Zwart. The family will receive friends at Thorpe Bros. Funeral Home, 96 West St., Brantford, on Saturday January 17th from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at another time, with inurnment at Mount Hope Cemetery, Brantford.
