March 13, 2023. Daniel G. Sweeney passed away in his sleep at his home in Silverdale, WA this month, shortly before his 72nd birthday. Born and raised in Woodbury, New Jersey, he was the lively and loving son of the late Daniel and Catherine Sweeney and is survived by his four sisters: Jayne Sweeney; Diane (Norman) Strobel; Maureen (Bruce) Cundey and Catherine (Tom) Coyle. Dozens of cousins, nieces and nephews will miss him dearly as well.
After graduating from West Deptford HS, Danny served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. In civilian life, he continued to serve his country at Naval shipyards across the country, working on aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines for the Department of Defense.
His smile and laugh were legendary among his countless friends. Danny loved fishing and hunting in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Travel was a passion. He found relatives in Ireland, swam the surf in Hawaii, and later in life was an Amtrak sleeping car regular, visiting National Parks such as Glacier, Joshua Tree and Yellowstone. He was a loyal Philadelphia sports fan, but found room in his heart for the Seahawks, too. An avid Zoom regular with his far-flung family over the past few years, Danny kept track of family accomplishments and was a one-man pep rally. He was the kind of person who could make you feel better simply by calling your name.
Danny will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at some point in 2024. A memorial service for friends and family to celebrate his generous, curious and hilarious spirit will be held in New Jersey this summer.
