David Kenyon Spooner, age 76, beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, shipmate, and disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ, died on 26 April 2026 at his home in Silverdale, Washington. He was a resident of the Great Pacific Northwest since arriving in 1979 to serve aboard TRIDENT Submarines at Kitsap Bangor NW Navy Base.
David was born to hardy New Englanders George and Barbara Spooner in Los Alamos, New Mexico where his father was working at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. He grew up in Denver, Colorado, attending CSU on a music scholarship, and joined the U.S. Navy in 1969, serving at multiple locations during his career including Japan, USS Oklahoma, Guam, San Diego, California, and Bangor, Washington on TRIDENT Submarines.
In 1976 on Guam, he fell in love and married Teresa Marrufo and they were blessed with 50 wonderful years of marriage, two children Benjamin and Rachael, and seven amazing grandchildren Alan, Ryan, Maya, KJ, Evyn, Avery, and Jayce.
Although proud to have served our country in the military, what truly motivated David was to continually dream of something new to do and the challenge of then figuring out how to do it. Always busy doing or creating something, he was known for his quick and witty sense of humor and a passion for car restoration, woodworking, fixing anything and everything around the house (whether it was broken or not!). A trained musician, he thoroughly enjoyed well-orchestrated (high quality ) music as well as RVing and camping whether close by at family gatherings or driving across country! He would do anything to help a friend and served many years as a soccer-Dad taxi service across WA state, as an usher at church services, and volunteering at Bremerton St Vincent de Paul Assistance Office.
With many medical trials to overcome in later years, his can-do attitude and Catholic faith never faltered, always still trying to have the best day possible, thanking God for his many blessings he still enjoyed.
The loss is immeasurable but so is the love left behind…❤
Catholic Funeral Mass will be at Our Lady Star of the Sea on May 12 at 11am. Private burial with full military honors at Mt.Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent WA. Donations may be made to 40-Days for Life in lieu of flowers
