Edith E. Jeter, 91, of Port Orchard, passed away peacefully at her home on Jan. 3, 2011. She was born on Nov. 12, 1919 in Seattle to Perle and Lucia Jones. In addition to being a devoted Navy wife for 27 years, to Edgar Hillstrom, she worked as a Bookkeeper for Manchester Water District. Edith worked at the water district from 1966-1984 and during that time was also an owner of the Variety Store in downtown Manchester. She wrote the “Manchester Meandering” Column for the Port Orchard Independent, and organized the Centennial Celebration for the town of Manchester. Edith enjoyed reading, playing video games, and was an author of a family genealogy book that she proudly distributed to her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother George and older infant sister Margaret. Surviving are her children, John Hillstrom (Cindy) of Puyallup, Marge Workman (Dick) of Port Orchard, brothers Gene of Port Orchard, Bob (Leslie) of Port Orchard, Richie of Auburn and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. As Edith would say, “Think Beautiful”. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a charity of donor’s choice.

Rest in piece Edith, an inspiration to all. You will truly be missed, I am saddened she will not be here with us to play Dragon Quest 6 once it releases.

Ms. Edith Jeter, I did not know you but the story of your life and our common interest in gaming brought you to my attention. I am deeply saddened by the fact that you will never get to play Dragon Quest VI. Your letter 15 years ago and the knowledge that you took great joy in something some might laugh at you for is something that makes me inexplicably happy. You have inspired me to know that no matter where I am in life or what age I am that it is okay to enjoy what I want. I hope your children, grand children, and great grand children are fully aware of how awesome your life was and I am confident you will not only inspire all of them but others all throughout the world. There will be a copy of Dragon Quest VI on your grave I promise. Thank you.

Your letter in Nintendo Power Volume 82 was the first thing I thought of when I heard DQ6 was finally coming to America. I never knew you, but you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hearing this story has touched my heart. I wish I could've met this fellow video game lover in life. As a fellow gaming girl I'm sure I would've enjoyed speaking to Edith. I pre-ordered a copy of Dragon Quest VI and will now have her wish on my mind when I hear the game's music start its chorus.

She is known in the video game world as the 76 year old lady who wanted a release of Dragon Quest 6. I am saddened, since a remake of this game will be released on 2/14, and I was tuly hoping she would be hear to play it with us all. Godspeed to you- may the Lord almighty have a special copy waiting for you in His kingdom!
