Gail moved with her family to Bremerton, WA in 1940 and attended Bremerton High School where she graduated in 1944. Gail married the love of her life, Bob Calnan at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in 1948. They were happily married for 64 years.
Gail was a parishioner of Star of the Sea where she volunteered with the PTA, CYO, and as a Eucharistic minister. She also held a number of jobs through the years including the Roxy Theater, PSNS, church secretary, Olympic College and a real estate agent. Her labor of love, however, was that of a dedicated, loving wife and mother.
Gail and Bob raised eight children at the house on Warren Avenue and mom was the guiding force behind keeping that ship running smoothly with her strong loving style. With this dedication came the rewards. Mom enjoyed years of attending her children’s, grandchildren’s, and great grandchildren’s many events. Beyond the dances and graduations, birthday parties and weddings, sporting events were likely her favorite. Her encouraging words from the stands were always heard above all others!
Gail was as avid league bowler and past Junior League member. She enjoyed canning, baking and sewing. Bob and Gail also enjoyed traveling in their motor home, going on cruises, and taking many other trips including to Mexico, Hawaii and Europe.
Many summers were spent at their second home on Tiger Lake. "The Lake" was host to CYO, work parties, birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and our Winter Solstice celebrations. During 4th of July celebrations, it was not unusual to find over a hundred guests, and yes, Gail ruled over that crowd as well. She also derived great joy from their winter home in Arizona and their second community of dear friends there.
Gail was preceded in death by her husband Bob Calnan, parents Beatrice and Glenn McDougal and her sister Evelyn Dornan of Selah. Gail is survived by her sister Lucille Uhinck of Silverdale. Her children; Daniel (Jeannie) Calnan of Silverdale, Kathleen (Ron) Mox and Pam Calnan of Belfair; Timothy (Lisa) Calnan of Bremerton, Patrick (Judie) Calnan of Tumwater; Robert Jr. (Vicky) Calnan of Seattle; Kimberly (Gary) Baumgartner of Brownsville, and Jeffery Calnan of Bremerton. Grandchildren Rebecca Watson, Christopher Calnan, Colette and Melissa Fitz, Shelby Mox, Kerry Miller, Glenn Calnan, Olyvia Oostenbrug, Max, Caitlin, and Kevyn Calnan; Dani Sue, Robert III, and Kyra Calnan; Emily Baumgartner; Abigail Calnan, Amanda and Alex Arguello. She is also survived by great grandchildren Devenn, Cory, Emma, Sara, Helena and Lauren along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
