

Born 8 May 1944 to Ruth R (Hill) and Gerald E Haynes at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard Hospital in Bremerton, Washington. They divorced in 1946 and Ruth married Robert L Taunt. They raised Jerry along with their two daughters Billie Jean and Patti Anne as well as sons Richard L and Steven R Taunt.
Jerry attended South Kitsap Schools (Givens, East Port Orchard, Marcus Whitman and South Kitsap High). He graduated from South in 1962 and continued his education by attending Olympic College for two years. He moved to Waconda, Washington in 1964 where he worked in construction running a ‘Dozer’ and building roads for the Forest Service. He married Patrica Marie Bonwell or Curlew, Washington, in 1965. He was drafted in the US Army in 1966 and served overseas with the 24th Infantry Division.
After returning to the States, he started a machinist apprenticeship in 1969 under the GI bill at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. A son, Ronald Jay was born in 1970 and he completed the apprenticeship in 1972 becoming a journeyman machinist. He divorced in 1974. He later obtained the status of Nuclear Toolmaker/ Diesinker and worked in Shop 06 Refueling.
In 1977 Jerry Married Janice E (Sutherland) Haynes and together they raised sons Larry, John and Ron with daughter Betsi.
Jerry was a Southern Baptist deacon serving in First Baptist Church in Port Orchard, Washington and was actively involved in his community of faith. At home, he enjoyed yard work, gardening and spending time in his Shop working on small engines and all sorts of mechanical items needing repair.
