Gwendolyn was born in Nebraska in 1928 during The Depression. Her family later moved to Bremerton where she attended high school. She worked at the Roxy Theater as an usherette where she met our dad, Judson F Black. They married March 20, 1948, in Bremerton and she spent the next few years as the bookkeeper for the family business.
Judy was born in 1951, Judd in 1953 and Terry in 1955. Once the kids were grown, mom traveled the world with dad as his employment took them to Saigon, Australia and The Naval Academy in Maryland. While she missed her family, she treasured the experiences from this chapter of their lives.
In 1985, they retired and spent their winters in Apache Junction, AZ and their summers in Bremerton. She enjoyed their many friends they made in Apache Junction. She hosted happy hours and participated in many social activities as well as serving as the community librarian. During the summers while in Bremerton, she enjoyed spending time with family and seeing all her grandchildren.
In her later years, she was sweet and sassy and still sharp as a tack living on her own. She loved keeping track of the grandkids and great grandkids on Facebook and she mastered texting -emojis were her favorite. She enjoyed shopping and lunch dates and was always ready with her grocery list, coupons and appetite.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Mae, her brothers Dorm and Don, her husband Judson “Bud” Black and her son Terry Black.
She is survived by her son Judd Black, daughter Judy Black, grandchildren Melissa Shafto, Andy Enloe, Jennifer Enloe, Cara Smith (John) and Kevin Black (Blythe), great children Emma Shafto, Philip Shafto, Tyler Enloe, Jakob Wittig, Jonathan Enloe, Tessa Wittig, Chelsea Smith and Roman Black and great-great grandchildren Gage and Oliver Shafto. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Dale (Skip) Price (Deborah), Diana Larsen, Caroline (Susie) Wells (John) and Todd Larsen (Tanna).
Per her wishes, there will be no service but there will be a gathering of her grandchildren at a later date.
