

Mark was born in Vallejo, California, on October 1, 1961, to David Ellis and Shirley Freeman. He eventually came to Bremerton, Washington, where he attended Central Kitsap Jr. High and Central Kitsap High School. Mark enlisted in the US Army delayed entry program, and graduated in 1980. He entered into active duty in Seattle September 30, 1980 and attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. During his service time, Mark earned citations for Sharpshooter Badge with Hand Grenade Bar, Air Assault Badge, Expert Badge with M-16 Rifle Bar, and Army Service Ribbon. Mark had Combat Engineer training and served in Germany, Egypt, and the Gulf. He separated from the Army at Fort Jackson, South Carolina on May 11, 1983 as an E4 Weapons Specialist Combat Engineer.
Mark and Janis Freeman were married on August 7, 1993, in Bremerton. They were married 32 years at his passing. Mark worked in construction, and was an avid outdoorsman. He had a voracious love of fishing and hunting. He is survived by his wife Janis, and his sister, Kelly Tabert, of Bremerton. His parents, a sister, Cindy Price, and a brother, ‘baby David’ Freeman, preceded him in death.
A private Celebration of Life was held on Friday, September 19, at Miller Woodlawn in Bremerton. Mark received military honors and will eventually be buried at Miller Woodlawn.
