Born in 1936 in Virginia City, Minn., to Lloyd and Violet Hoglund, Ron died of complications from congestive heart failure. Preceding him in death are his parents, his brother Tom, and his loving wife Neal (2009). Ron is survived by his brother Dave, Port Angeles; his four sons and daughters in laws: Greg and Kathy Hoglund, Bremerton; Chris Hoglund (now Katrina Shannon), Portland; Pat and Mary Hoglund, Portland; Eric and Jennifer Hoglund, Spokane. Ron has eight grandchildren:
Hannah Scott (husband Kevin), Mitchell and Tessie Hoglund, Bremerton; Peter and Mary Kate Hoglund, Portland; Molly, Matthew and Emily Hoglund, Spokane. His two great grandchildren are Sterling and Carter Scott, Bremerton.
Ron graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1956, then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he spent time in Arizona (Luke AFB) and Newfoundland (Harmon AFB). Immediately following his military service Ron took a job at Alaska Communications Systems in Fairbanks, Alaska. While in Fairbanks, he met Cornelia Dohr, whom he married after the two happened to meet while celebrating their birthdays. They were married June 22, 1962.
They moved to Bremerton in 1966 where they raised their family.
Ron was hired as a helper at NUWES (Keyport) in 1966, promoted to supervisor in 1969 and eventually retired as a General Foreman Division Head in 1993. He worked 27 years at Keyport and by the time he retired he had spent 37 years working for the Civil Service.
Ron was a devoted husband, loving father and a doting grandfather. He coached several of his boys in baseball for the Tracyton Pee Wees, he loved to work in his wood shop, was an avid big game hunter, a corny joke teller, a voracious reader, and a great story teller. Throughout his life he loved to ride motorcycles, travel and camp in his RV, and spend time at the family lake cabin. One of his favorite things to do in his retirement was to spend time with his grandchildren, a great source of pride for him. He loved them dearly.
Ron was also proud of his friendships with many people including Don and Joyce Smith, Jim and Gay Trull, Jerry and Dianne Jensen, Irv and Nancy Winters, Mike and Marnie Lougheed, Rick and Marilyn Rowe, and Joan Wright, whom he shared the last year and a half of his life with.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 10 at Holy Trinity Parish. The funeral mass begins at 11 a.m.
