Abayomi Oluwade Huria (ne. Jefferey Robinson Freeman), the youngest of 3 children, was born February 4th, 1965 and raised in Philadelphia, PA by his mother Akosua Huria. Growing up he was also very close with his maternal grandparents, Clementine and Benjamin Robinson.
From an early age, he excelled in school and spent a lot of time exploring different aspects of the arts, including theatre and dance. He graduated from Media-Providence Friends High School in 1982 and went on to become a Howard University Bison (HU, You Know!). From Howard, Abayomi received dual Bachelor’s degrees, majoring in both Psychology and Elementary Education.
Abayomi spent time travelling before holding various teaching roles at schools across the District of Columbia and beyond. He was passionate about education and nurturing the next generation, often going the extra mile through coaching sports and leading other extracurricular activities.
Abayomi is survived by his devoted wife and partner of 25 years, Crystal Lynch; their children, Chike and Dakari Lynch-Huria; his daughters, Adanma and Ifetayo Huria; his siblings, Netfa and Colletta Freeman; his niece, Makeda Sheffield; his mother, Akosua Huria; his mother-in-law, Carol Warren; and his father-in-law Rodney Lynch. He also leaves behind Godchildren, close friends, extended family and many former students. The love that he had for his family, everyone placed in his care, his friends and anyone else he came across remains palpable and evident.
On Saturday, August 23, 2025, Abayomi transitioned peacefully with the sunrise. A memorial service to honor and celebrate a full life well lived by Abayomi will be held on Sunday, August 31st at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will occur from 11 am until 12 pm and the service will be held from 12 pm to 1 pm at 3401 Bladensburg Rd. Brentwood, MD 20722.
