Annie Mae “Lady O’ Grady” passed on peacefully in her sleep from this life the evening of Friday, September 10, 2021, after a gradual decline in health. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers during her last days.
Annie Mae was born in Sumter, South Carolina, on June 3, 1926. To make a better life for herself she relocated to Washington, DC in 1950. She was always full of joy, always laughing and joking, singing and dancing with her grand daughter, Malakah, always filling the atmosphere with prayers and blessings for those around her.
Annie Mae will surely be missed by her loved ones. She was always offering to help others if able, cook or clean for those who could not do for themselves, and would call to check on those when too much time had passed just to hear their voice. Annie Mae was strong and determined in all she did. Up to the very end she would tell doctors, nurses, and her children, "Let me do it for myself while I still can." No matter if she was trying to walk with the walker or cane; going up and down the stairs . . . Annie Mae wanted to at least try it first on her own. She would say, ". . . when I can no longer do for myself then you can help me." Annie Mae did things her own way up to when the Lord called her home.
Annie Mae is survived by three children: Clarence, Jacqueline, and Loretta; one daughter-in-law: Rosemary; five grandchildren: Anita, Stephanie; Dominique; William; and Malakah; one great grandchild: Anthony; and seven nieces and nephews: Charlie; Andy; Lorenzo; Marie; Tommy; Lois; and Eddie.
