Cassandra Desirita DaCosta also known as Cherry, was born on January 1, 1961, at DC General Hospital in Washington, DC. She was the eldest of six children born to Daniel DaCosta Sr. and Leslie DaCosta. Cassandra was raised in Washington, DC where she also received her education.
As a young girl, Cassandra enjoyed Double Dutch, playing Jax, talking on the phone with friends, and shopping. She spent most of her teen years hanging out with her best friends Gwennie and Michelle. They did almost everything together from teenage to adulthood. As the eldest of six, Cassandra took part in assisting her parents with caring for her younger siblings. She grew a love for children and eventually opened her own Home Daycare in the mid-80s. Cassandra enjoyed arts and crafts activities with the kids the most. Later she fulfilled her desire to enter the corporate world as an Executive Administrative Assistant where she spent most of her career. In 1993, Cassandra joined Primerica Financial Services as a Life Insurance Consultant. She was always in pursuit of life’s endless possibilities and opportunities available to her. Known for her kind-hearted, yet feisty nature, Cassandra was always loving but never afraid to defend herself and those she loved. She loved God and spent most of her adult life attending church and singing in the choir at Free Gospel Deliverance Temple in Coral Hills, Maryland.
When Cassandra walked into the room, those in her company felt her warmhearted and loving energy. This was just one example of who Cassandra was and how she impacted those around her. Cassandra was a gregarious and compassionate person who commonly sought out genuine connections with others. She was full of life, laughter, and love that served her well throughout her journey. If you wanted to see her smile, bring out the Red Lobster biscuits and turn on some soul music. Cassandra loved dancing, singing, and great food!
Surrounded by her family, on Monday, October 17, 2022, Cassandra transitioned from us after a long battle with health complications. She fought hard and pushed through many obstacles during her illness. Her strength and determination to fight were inspiring to all. She is preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Leslie DaCosta, and her sister Danetta DaCosta. Cassandra leaves her memory and legacy of love to be cherished by her four siblings: Daniel, Antonio, Elisa, and Ricardo (Kim); four daughters: Latricia (Terrynce), Nicole, Sharnice, and Charity; five grandchildren: Tiara, Kaylah, Kalaya, Nikolas and Khari; three great-grandchildren: Josiah, Zylah and Jasir and a host of extended relatives and friends.
