

Catherine Ann Buckner peacefully departed this life in the comfort of her home on March 18, 2022 in Bowie, MD. Catherine was born on June 14, 1951 in Washington, DC to the late Elijah B. Moody & Georgianna Bryant Moody.
Catherine graduated from Eastern High School and worked towards a bachelor’s degree at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), Prince George’s Community College and Bowie State University, focused on Sociology. Catherine married David J. Buckner Jr., her loving partner in life and travel of 47 years, on October 20, 1973.
Catherine lived her professional life in service, holding positions at The Department of Health, Education, & Welfare, The Mayflower Hotel Human Resources Department, Woodward & Lothrop (“Woodie’s”) Department Store, Duron Paints, and Chico’s Clothing Store.
Catherine possessed a whimsical and uplifting spirit, never missing a chance to celebrate the milestones of her loved ones. She remembered other’s big and small accomplishments often better than they recalled themselves. She showed her affection by greeting her family and friends by their first and middle names in her distinctive sing-song voice. Catherine was passionate about traveling the world and worked to facilitate travel arrangements for others every chance available. Her favorite place to travel was Jamaica, where Catherine and David spent their honeymoon in 1973. Catherine enjoyed nature and flowers, spending much time nurturing and admiring her garden and bringing the outdoors inside.
Catherine is survived by a loving and devoted husband, David J. Buckner, Jr. of Bowie, MD; daughters, Sherry M. Moody, of Woodbridge, VA, and Shani H. (William) Lawry of Washington, DC; step-children, Kenneth D. (Patricia) Buckner of Alpharetta, GA, and Kimberly T. Doctor of Woodbridge, VA; siblings, Bernard Moody of Richmond, VA, Ronald L. (Rose) Moody of Tappahannok, VA, and Jacqueline Y. Harris, of Highland Springs, VA; step-grandchildren, Keyana Buckner of Seattle, WA, Carina Winston of Springfield, VA, Celeste Winston (Jalil Bishop) of Philadelphia, PA, and Julien Buckner of Alpharetta, GA; 2 step-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Catherine is preceded in death by parents Elijah B. and Georgianna Moody of Richmond, VA, and brother John H. Bryant, of Washington, DC
