Ms. Delores Agatha Junious, MSW, LICSW, LCSW, LCSW-C, began her life in Sumter County, South Carolina on August 19th, 1963. She was the daughter of the late Lee Junious and Thelma Jackson. Delores departed this life suddenly and unexpectedly on May 24th at her home surrounded by family and friends.
Delores received her early childhood education in the Sumter County Public Schools before family circumstances brought her and her siblings to Washington, DC, where the matriculation continued in the DC Public School System. Delores attended Harrison elementary School, Garnet Patterson Junior High School and Dunbar Senior High School all in Washington, DC. After high school, Delores matriculated at Xavier University in New Orleans, LA receiving a BS degree in Psychology with the class of 1986. Delores later received her Master's in Social Work from Howard University in 1994. She was considered to be a highly intelligent student with honor marks throughout her schooling.
Delores was employed as a Clinical Social Worker and Clinical Manager with the DC Government for many years; and also worked as a Social Worker for CFSA. As a Clinical Manager at City Care Health Services, Inc, Delores managed the mental health rehabilitation services (MHRS) program. Other employment includes but not limited to DC Transition to Independence Process (TIP) as a Clinical Manager for Life Enhancement Services in Washington, DC and worked as a Social Worker for the DC Department of Human Services to help parenting teenage clients understand and comply with self-sufficiency. Delores also worked with the Homeless Services Program, Adult Protective Services, DC Child and Family Services Agency, Catholic Charities Homeless Services and Children's National Medical Center. After retirement, Delores maintained her LICSW and continued to work as a private contractor through her Junadee, Inc corporation. Delores was a member of NASW, DC Metro Chapter and member of NABSW.
Delores, known to close family and friends as "Lois" or "Junadee" enjoyed life and lived it to the fullness thereof. She would always say something to bring a smile to your face or chuckle in your heart. A cheerful giver and always ready, willing, and able to help someone in need, Delores took her profession as a Social Worker very seriously and was passionate about giving back to the community. Delores was the 'go to' person for advice, resources, and rational common sense. She often said "Don't talk about it, be about it" and would always remind the youth that there are choices and consequences for every behavior. Delores was the favorite "Aunt Lois" who never married and did not have any children. She would often say that with all of the youth she has worked with in her role as Social Worker, she had over 100 children and didn't have to go through the pain of childbirth. Delores had a great sense of humor with an infectious laugh and joyful, giving spirit. In addition to being a world traveler especially cruising, she loved to pray, listen to music, spend time with family and friends, socialize, watch movies, and of course go to the casino. She was strong willed and determined to live life on her own terms and she was a fierce advocator for civil rights and fair treatment in the workplace, home, and beyond.
Delores grew up in Walker Memorial Baptist Church and continued to be an active member throughout her life although mostly virtual in the recent years. However, she rarely missed a service online and was grateful for the connection that she maintained with many of the members at WMBC.
Delores leaves to cherish her memory a devoted Sister, Thelma Burless; brother -n-law, Thomas Burless, Sr; a distant brother, David Junious; a favorite cousin, Darin Belafonte Jackson; a dear Aunt Grace Jackson; three nieces, Vanessa Barfield Junious, Victoria Barfield Junious, and Angeleana Denise Glenn Junious. Two nephews, Thomas Anthony Burless, Jr. and Timothy Lee Burless; and a host of other relatives, associates, and friends.
Delores is preceded in death by her parents, Lee Junious and Thelma Gregory; and her older brother Randy Lee Junious.
