Dewana Ardelia Jamison affectionately known as ( De De ) was born to the late Attorney Nathan A. Dobbins and Pauline E. Dobbins on September 11, 1942, in Georgetown, a historic section of Washington, D.C. She was the second oldest of four children. Dewana was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Dorian Q. Dobbins.
Dewana transitioned peacefully from this life on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at the Carroll Manor Rehabilition Center.
Dewana accepted Christ at an early age. She joined St. Stephen and the Incarnation Episcopal Church and was an active member until she became incapacitated. When her faith was tested, she prayed and read her favorite poem Footprints In The Sand to uplift her spirit.
Dewana was educated in the District of Columbia School System. She graduated from Cardozo High School and attended Howard University. Education was a priority , her parents emphatically emphasized the importance of an education.
Dewana married the late Curtis Leroy ( Buddy ) Morrison in 1961. From this union one son was born, Kenneth Wayne Morrison. After several years the marriage concluded. On September 27, 1969, she married the late Gerald Eugene Jamison , there were no children between them, he had two daughters from a previous relationship.
Dewana was employed in the District of Columbia School System. She began her career as a secretary at West Elementary and Emery Elementary schools. She was dedicated, dependable and an impeccable employee. She received many awards and certificates for her achievements. Dewana retired after 38 years of service.
Dewana enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved to read, travel, crochet, pottery/ceramics, art and listening to various genre of music ( gospel, do-wop and jazz ). She was associated with the Cardozo Alumni Association and Eta-Phi Beta Sorority Inc. ( Alpha-Zeta Chapter ).
Dewana was a devoted loving mother, who firmly believed in the importance of family. She was sociable, humorous and loved to be surrounded by family and friends. She enjoyed picnics and loved ocelebrating holidays.
Dewana leaves to cherish her memory her beloved son, Kenneth W. Morrison, brothers, Nathan A. (Tony) Dobbins, Ronald Dobbins (Jean), nieces, Dr. Tiffani K. Johnson (Dr. Keith Johnson), Aneera N. Dobbins, nephews, Marc B. Dobbins (Lalita), Rashad H. Dobbins, cousin, Attorney Alexander W. Dobbins, one sister-in-law, Irma Dobbins, special friends, Charlotte Johnson, Charlene Marshall, Demitria Simpson, Patricia Harrison and other relatives and friends.
