Edward Ricketts, Jr was born March 2, 1938 in Silver Spring, MD, Mr. Ricketts graduated Montgomery Blair High School in 1956. Well known and loved for his cheerfulness, positive personality and sense of humor, he was active in both high school athletics and music. From 1957-1958 he attended Concordia Junior College in Bronxville, NY where he continued to be active in football, basketball, choir & many clubs and committees. From 1959-1960 he attended Concordia Senior College in Ft. Wayne, IN where he planned to enter into the Christian ministry. He was later called to serve in the US Army where he served a tour of duty in the Vietnam war. After his military service he resided in Silver Springs where he faithfully & lovingly cared for his father and mother during their respective battles with leukemia & stomach cancer. After their passing he resided in several veterans’ care facilities, including Angel Assisted Living Facility. Health issues later required him to be transferred to the VA medical center in DC. He went home to be with the Lord May 5, 2024 after a battle with laryngeal cancer.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward W. Ricketts, Sr, mother Bertha (Hudak) Ricketts, sister Audrey (Ricketts) Schinkel and brother-in-law Rev Norman Schinkel. He is survived by one nephew and two nieces.
Prayers and words of remembrance will be shared graveside at 1:30 pm on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Fort Lincoln Cemetery. All those who wish to join in paying their respects are welcome to attend.
