Bobick (Lela), grandchildren Shannon M. Flora and Thomas A. Bobick. He is survived by his children Daniel R. Bobick, Donald R. Bobick (Alice), Carol A. Bobick; grandchildren Nahim G. Rosa, Jason A. Pete spent his childhood in Kentucky and spent many hours after school at his parents’ restaurant. Every Christmas, the restaurant would close for the family’s annual Christmas trip to Florida, which remained as fond memories for Pete. He graduated from Boyd County High School in 1963. Sometime after Pete’s graduation, the family sold the restaurant and moved to Silver Spring, Maryland. Pete met the greatest love of his life, Joyce, through a mutual friend who worked in the insurance business with Pete. Eager to start their new lives together, the two were married at Cheverly United Methodist Church, Cheverly, MD on October 24, 1981. His hobbies included traveling and amateur photography.
Pete had a booming, memorable voice, and got into radio work in Manassas, VA, doing color commentary for college sporting events. His natural ability to strike up a conversation led to a position in life insurance sales. Afterwards, he found his niche as a wholesale florist, which he enjoyed until Joyce’s retirement. In 1991, Pete and Joyce built their dream home on the Little Wicomico River, and moved to Reedville, VA to spend their retirement years. While in the Northern Neck of Virginia, Pete worked part-time as a DJ with WNNT-FM River Country out of the Warsaw radio station, where he is remembered by locals for “the swap shop.” Due to a station sale and format change, Pete left radio but found a part-time position as a “relief” postal carrier with the local post office, picking up shifts when others were out on leave. Pete loved both his radio and postal service work, as his greatest joy was making friends with both people and their pets.
Pete suffered a stroke in 2018, and eventually moved to Calvert County Nursing Center in Prince Frederick, MD. He was a delightful resident at CCNC, who never lost his gift for gab, and entertained residents and staff alike with his memories and travel stories. He will be dearly missed by both family and friends.
A visitation will be held at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, MD 20722 on Wednesday, November 6, from 10:00 – 11:00 am, with a funeral service at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Fort Lincoln Cemetery.
