She was born on August 24, 1921 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina to the late Frank and Josephine Harris, as the second oldest of ten children. She attended Nash County Public Schools.
After high school, she married the late Jessie Boddie and from this union, she had two sons, Joe Louis (deceased) and John Willis. Much later, she was also united with the late Anniah McClinton whose union produced six children: Warren, Georgianna, Delores (deceased), Andre (deceased), Dennis and Denise.
She left Rocky Mount, North Carolina to pursue better job opportunities and settled in Washington, D.C.
Frances was able to obtain employment at Pioneer Laundry. She was a dependable and skilled worker, which quickly elevated her to the position of Unit Supervisor. After more than 20 years, the company closed permanently. She then became a housewife and babysat for some of her relatives' children. Frances later acquired her final position as a housekeeper for two government officials, with whom she worked for until her retirement.
She always felt a great sense of pride and fulfillment whenever all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren celebrated holidays and birthdays together. Frances and her youngest daughter would host the annual Christmas dinners. This is where she was known to cook delectable meals such as chicken and dumplings, bread pudding and Brunswick stew. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching soap operas, sewing and crossword puzzles.
Frances was a soft spoken, kind spirited and faithful woman of God. She attended Greater New Hope Baptist Church for 50 years, under the pastorship of the late Rev. Charles C. Hamilton and Bishop Melvin G. Brown. She was a member of the Hamilton Fellowship Club. She also served on the program committee and assisted with baptismal candidates.
Just like her mother, Josephine Harris, Frances was blessed to be a centenarian. She was awarded a certificate and gold medallion by the Mayor of Washington, DC.
The Family of Frances McClinton wishes to express their heartfelt and sincere thanks to Alliance Home Health Care Agency and Autumnleaf Group, Inc. Without their support, this journey would have been much harder.
