Glenda Kay Rossberg passed away on April 10, 2025, in Silver Springs, MD due to Heart Failure. Glenda fought a long battle with her health these past five months and worked so hard to try and be present and thoughtful to her family during her hospitalization, and now she gets to rest. She is preceded by her parents, Mar-Jo Boelter, Gary Grimstead and her son Christopher Kjer.
Glenda, or “Miss Glenda”, as she was known in her neighborhood, was a sweet and kind soul, gentle with everyone who knew her. She dedicated her life to the two things that mattered the most to her - her service to the IRS, in which she took great pride, and her love of Felines, which she expressed by taking in and caring for so many of the unloved and unwanted cats in her neighborhood. It was through that love of cats, that she became a fixture in her community. Many of her neighbors have expressed to us how dedicated she was to caring for her community cats. She also gave back to her community in other ways, being a supportive resource to the people around her in the ways that she could serve.
She was born September 15, 1959 in Bismarck, North Dakota as the eldest of four sisters. They remained close up until the day Glenda passed, even coming out to care for her during her long stay in the Hospital. All through her life, even as a child, Glenda had such a genuine wonder and joy in the world that touched all around her.
Motherhood came young for Glenda, she had her first child, Donald Kjer, just out of High School. Shortly after her first son’s birth, she moved out to California. She suffered a great loss after the birth of her second child. Christopher Kjer was taken from her too soon, and she mourned him for the rest of her life. She later went on to have her third child, Trisha Krouse, and devoted herself to doing her best to love and be present for her children. Some of their fondest family memories are of the times that they would go on excursions to national parks. Glenda loved nature and had dreams of someday buying a house with some land around it to enjoy nature in the comfort of her own backyard.
Glenda was a strong woman, who worked her way out of poverty, starting out at her first job as a Pic ‘n Save cashier and taking night classes, while raising two children, to eventually get a job with the IRS, where she found meaning and fulfillment in being of service to her government and also to her fellow employees, as she spent many years as a Union representative and advocate. She served with the IRS for 35 years, earning the respect of her colleagues and making lifelong friends. Her work in the IRS was deeply meaningful to her, and she took great pride in her work, earning several awards and recognitions for her dedication.
When she was not working or caring for her community cats, Glenda loved to be creative and express herself in so many different ways. Both by being crafty and enjoying a great number of arts and crafts projects, but She also enjoyed expressing herself in her unique style and love of bygone era fashion sensibilities. She loved to develop a whole look for herself that combined tasteful coordination of purses, scarves, and beautiful jewelry. She loved beauty and was always looking to find it in the world, often in the most unexpected of places.
But what would probably surprise people the most who didn’t know her well, is that Glenda had a wonderful and quirky sense of humor and delighted in all things campy and ridiculous. Some of her favorite things to watch were Mystery Science Theater 3000, The Twilight Zone, and vintage televisions shows and movies. Her quick wit and easy repartee made her a delightful conversationalist and time spent talking with her would fly by.
Glenda is survived by her Son, Donald (Stephanie) Kjer, Daughter, Trisha (Nathaniel) Krouse, Four grandchildren, Jessica Kjer, Raymond, Nathan and Lillian Krouse, her three sisters, Lori McCoy, Lisa Kennedy, Darcy Westerern and their children, and her three beloved cats, Alice, Betty White, and Luvvie.
She touched so many lives and her loss will be felt keenly by her friends, family and community.
A celebration of life for Ms. Glenda will be held Thursday, April 24, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home, 3401 Bladensburg Rd, Brentwood, Maryland 20722. A repast will follow the service.
