Joan was born on October 6, 1930 in Washington DC and lived there until July, 2000. She was a loving and caring homemaker for many years and helped anyone in need. She took care of many of her elderly neighbors for years. She loved her family more than anything and enjoyed having gatherings and always cooked a feast fit for a king. She was a great cook and baker and shared her goodies with all.
When her husband passed in 1985 she went to work in a doctor’s office as a medical assistant. Her employers and the patients all loved and respected her. She retired at the age of 70 in 2000 and moved to Calvert County with her youngest daughter and son-in-law and their children. It’s a known fact that she liked her son-in-law Tom best!
Joan was the loving wife of the late Charles Luttrell Conley and mother of the late Charles E. Conley. She is survived by three children George A. Conley (Gloria), Joan A. Canose, Nancy J. Scott (Thomas III) and Aunt to special niece Dorothy C. Kearns (Brian).
She was lovingly known as Nanny to her 8 grandchildren Christopher Conley (Kelly), Stephanie Woodley, Andrew Canose (Cindy), Jennifer Scott (Bill Ehemann), Russ Chandler, Dawn McKeich, Randy Chandler (Kimberly), Thomas Scott, IV (Ashley), and honorary granddaughter Amanda Bee. She had 21 great grandchildren and leaves behind to mourn her passing a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents George and Dorothy Smith, 2 sisters Rosemary Grayson and Catherine Rose, brother Robert Dunmoyer, and her oldest great-granddaughter, Tori Chandler.
