

He enjoyed an active childhood exceling in his studies, athletics and other extra-curricular activities at both the Park City Elementary and Madisonville High schools. After graduation from high school, John enrolled in Hiawassee College. He continued his education at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), where he received a Bachelor of Science degree, (B.S.) in Education and a Master of Science degree, (M.S.) in Adult Education.
John inherited a rich legacy of family, faith, leadership and character. He was known for his gentle and humble spirit, infectious smile, warm, friendly personality, and ability to make people feel at ease and open to possibilities for change that they may have not considered.
In his professional life, John Robert Dyer worked as a Recorder of Deeds with the District of Columbia Superior Court and as a social worker with the District of Columbia Department of Human Services.
He also served as Staff Sergeant and Communications Chief for the 115h Mobile Army Surgical Hospital with the District of Columbia Army National Guard. In addition, he was deployed for Operation Desert Strom and received numerous awards, including the Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Liberation of Kuwait Medal.
After retirement in 2011, John enjoyed playing golf, bowling, hand dancing and archeology . He was an avid Washington Football Team fan and a season ticket holder. He never missed a home game and on occasion, traveled to support his home team. The team has truly lost one of its loyal and dedicated fans.
A longtime member of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship, Inc., he enjoyed fraternizing with his brothers and participating in their community projects.
John was a member of the Riverdale Baptist Church, located in Upper Marlboro, MD.
His untimely transition leaves an unfillable void in the lives of those who knew and loved him.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Cecil Edward (C.E.) Dyer and his daughter Crystal Dyer. He leaves to mourn his passing and to celebrate his life, his son Jonathan Rhem; devoted and loving sisters, Adean Dyer King and Princess Arnetta Mayott; brother-in-law, Bedford McClain Mayott; sister-in-law,Monica Dyer; several nieces and nephews, Carmen Adeana Sudderth, Robert Sudderth,
Kuwanna Dyer Pietras (Jeffrey) and Sherena Dyer; great nieces; Abby Pietras, Erin Pietras and Jeleshia Henton (Thomas); and a host of loving cousins, extended family and friends.
