August 11, 1952 ̶ October 20, 2023
Linda Demetria Brooks, 71, of Washington, D.C. made a peaceful transition into eternal life on October 20, 2023, at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center. She was born on August 11, 1952, to the late Lucille Bell Brooks and Melvin Brooks. She was the fifth of six children. She attended Holy Comforter-St. Cyprian Parish and enjoyed Sunday mass with her siblings. Usually, we would go to the movie theater after church service. In her later years she would look for religious services in her community as well as television viewing. She loved watching Joel Osteen Ministries and Bishop T.D. Jakes Ministries.
Linda attended Federal City College (UDC) for two years of college and excelled in her studies. She worked as a research Lab Technician in the Animal Research and Microbiology Department at the National Institute of Health for more than twenty years. Her work included taking care of many research animals, which she really enjoyed. She decided to go to the pet store and buy two gerbils of her own.
Linda also enjoyed dancing and going to cabarets, in earlier years after a hard week of working, we would go out on weekends for some fun. She was a stylish dresser and loved to shop at high-end boutique shops in Bethesda and Silver Spring, Maryland. Her favorite dress shop was Lenore’s which she shared with her sisters.
Linda was a wonderful mother, who enjoyed spending time with her sons Jonathan and Jason watching sports, especially the NBA League. Jason, her youngest son, had fun discovering her playlist. Linda would have Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, and the Supremes on her list. These were some of her favorite singers. They enjoyed sharing those special moments.
Linda loved to read, and you would always find her with a book or newspaper in her lap with a cup of coffee. She had a quiet dignified demeanor, kind, trusting, but never hesitated to speak her mind. She loves children and often babysitting her nieces. When in Aunt Linda’s care you knew they would be spotless when you got back. She was super clean and organized.
Linda leaves to cherish her memories: her two sons Jonathan and Jason Brooks, her sisters Irma Brooks Flowers, Brenda Brooks, and Bernadette Brooks-Thurston (Ronald) and her brothers Donald Cedric Brooks and Michael Brooks. Nieces and nephews, Michael Brooks, Jr., Tiffany Brooks, Nicole Glover, Manuel Flowers, Jr., Mia Flowers, Shelby Poulos (John), and Justin Rollins, and twelve grandnieces, seven grandnephews, four great-grandnephews and eight great-grandnephews and host of family and friends.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.fort-lincoln.com for the Brooks family.
