

Lucius Guy Taylor Sr., our family’s hero, was born on April 3, 1942 in Washington, D.C. to James W. Taylor and Iomie Epps Taylor. He was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 10, 2021.
Lucius was educated in the D.C public school system. Lucius started his career with D.C Transit and later worked for WMATA where he worked for 32 years and retired receiving various accolades. Lucius’ love of golf inspired him to start a second career working at the Paint Branch golf course. Where he worked for over 15 years until his second retirement in 2019.
Lucius was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, in-law and friend. Family was everything to him! He always gave selflessly to those who were bought into his life. His paternal care extended beyond his immediate family, often providing guidance to the young men and women in the neighborhood and beyond.
Lucius also known as “Poppie” could be seen on the sidelines or in the audience at every event that his kids and grandkids participated in. He was extremely proud of his family. He spent much of his free time around his kids and grandkids. Whether it would be discussing a game or one of their sporting events or a recent television series that he thought was interesting. He was extremely engaging and always supportive. He was always larger than any words could speak. Lucius was always providing an encouraging word and was the backbone of support to all his family. He was their biggest supporter and was extremely proud of his family.
Lucius enjoyed taking fishing trips down to Point Lookout. He loved to joke, laugh, and listen to music, and at a moment’s notice he was always ready for a road trip. On certain days you could find Lucius curled up in front of the TV watching his favorite cowboy western television program. He enjoyed going to his Friday night poker games and loved taking trips with his friends and family to the Casinos.
Lucius a devoted family man leaves his wife of 62 years Elaine and his children: Lucius Taylor Jr. (Patricia), Alicia Taylor Brown (Carlos), James Taylor (Audrey) and Cynthia Taylor, grandchildren: Lucius Taylor III, Patricia Taylor Hart, Michael Taylor, James Wesley Taylor, Aaron Little, Jordan Brown, Miles Taylor, Kyle Taylor, Austin Martin and Marcus Brown, great grandchildren: Mya Taylor, Lucius Taylor IV, Ayden Taylor, Quinn Hart, Logan Hart; brother Wilson Brown (Joyce), brother-in-law Marvin Potter and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his Mother Iomie, Father James Taylor, sister Valencia Taylor, brothers Norman Coram and James Taylor, and granddaughter Maya Brown.
