On February 17, 2022, at 12:53 a.m., Maria Consuelo Guido, loving wife, mother and grandmother and great mother, passed away at the age of 75. She was the third of seven children born on September 29, 1946, in Arcatao, Department of Chaletenango, El Salvador, daughter to Mariana Rivera and Felix Guardado.
Maria Guido loved to study and wanted to teach at an early age. She received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and began to work as an Elementary Teacher. Her focus was math and English and was also into sports. In 1968, she came to the United States with dreams of a better life for her and her family and obtained a student diplomatic visa to continue her studies. Less than 5 years after arriving, she obtained a job at the Embassy in the United States, where she worked until 1972.
She was blessed with her first child Anna P. Guido but continued to want better for herself and her baby girl. She then obtained a job in April 1972 at the now Historic “Washington Club” overlooking Dupont Circle. She was a very determined person and in May 1976, she obtained her GED. A year later, she decided to go to the Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) program to obtain typing skills and prepare for the Civil Service exam, and in September 1977, she was offered a job in the Federal Government at the Navy Annex in Arlington, Virginia. There she worked until 1986. In 1983, while working in the government, she became a United States Citizen, and then went on to work for the United States Postal Office until she retired in January 2009.
She met and fell in love with Santiago Guido, and in February 1976, they welcomed their little girl Mirna Lizette, also known as Lisa. They were married on October 22, 1991 and combined their family. She gained 9 stepchildren and had a good relationship with each of them. She also loved to be around family and friends, especially when her young sister Cory would visit, she would say “It’s you and me and me and you.” She loved her favorite team the “Washington Redskins.” No matter how bad they played, she was a Redskins for fan for life. She also loved to travel and listen to music. She would call the radio station to request her song to be played and would dance to the music (Rancheros) (R&B, soul, funk/old school). She loved singing her favorite songs "White Dove" by Los Cadetes de Linares, “El Chubasco” by Carlos and Jose, “La Puerta Negra” by Los Tigres Del Norte, “Celebration” by Cool and the gang, “She works hard for the money and Hot stuff” by Donna Summer and “Ring my Bell” by Anita Ward to name a few. She also loved watching Family Feud and dreamed of being on the show one day. In addition, she always played BINGO show down on her tablet, never forgot to get her scratch off tickets, and enjoyed looking at flowers in her yard.
When she was younger, she played softball and basketball, and when she was older, she would practice baseball with her grandson Manny, to “show him her skills.” She would lighten up every time her granddaughters Kayla, Courtney, and Erica would come home from school or whenever she saw Eddie. She would often FaceTime with her granddaughter Ashley and blow kisses at her great-grandson Tyler. She also loved to dance with her Granddaughter Amisha to learn all the new dance moves. Her family was her world.
She is survived by her daughter Anna P. Guido, her Siblings Rosa “Rosita” Elias, Efrain Guardado, Jose Guardado, Arnulfo Guardado and her baby sister Coralia “Cory” Guardado. Her grandchildren, Amisha, Ashley, Manny, Eddie, Kayla, Courtney, Erica and a great grandson Tyler and host of nieces and nephews. Her stepchildren, Dr. Ricardo, Vilma, Chanty, Boris, Alicia, Jimmy and Ricardo
She was preceded in death by her parents Maríana Guardado and Felix Guardado. Her brother Carlos Amando, daughter Lisa, and her husband Santiago Guido. Maria will always be in our hearts and memories.
