

Melvin Douglas Talley departed this life on Tuesday, January 20, 2015. He was bom on December 24, 1941 in Augusta Georgia to the late Mary Frances Smith. The family later relocated to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania where he attended public school, graduating from Langley High School. He dedicated his life to Jehovah God at an early age on October 4, 1954. He demonstrated his strong love for God by telling everyone that he met about his God Jehovah and his son Jesus Christ.
Melvin's entrepreneurial spirit started soon after high school. He owned businesses named Mel's on Centre Avenue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His establishments were well known for having the first pin ball machines in that area.
Melvin relocated to Washington, D.C. in the 1960's where he continued his entrepreneurial spirit, opening his Gifts Plus store on Kemiedy St N.W. He later earned an Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of the District of Columbia.
Melvin met and fell head over hills in love with Jean Curry. They were married on October 27, 1980. From this union were bom three children,
Michaeldeon Roy, Akeena Jeanine, and D'Jai Melinda.
Melvin lived by his motto family, food, and friends. He often gathered with them at his home, get-togethers, and his favorite restaurants. He loved to dance, play cards, and collect what were to him unique treasures. He spent a large portion of his free time visiting the sick and the elderly. Always with a smiling face, Melvin was willing to help out in just about any situation.
As a natural people person, Melvin was well known and loved for the tender loving care he showed in his position with the Ft. Lincoln Cemetery for over two decades. Because of this, he became well known throughout the community.
He leaves to treasure his memory his beloved wife of 34 years, Jean; 3 children: Antoinette Phillips-Boggs, Akeena Talley and D'Jai Christie (EltaviusL a sister: Frances Cottrell; 9 grandchildren: Jaymar Oden, Sean Hilliard, Shannel Phillips, Dante Boggs, Albreanna Boggs, A'Jai Jem- Ahmed, Von Christie, Jaise Christie, and Jeremiah Stroman; 5 great grandchildren: Jaymar Oden Jr., Samir Oden, Sean Hilliard, Jr., Alayjia Norman and Saniya Phillips; and a host of other relatives and friends. Melvin was preceded in death by his mother: Mary Frances Smith; three brothers: Ronald Talley, Charles Wilson and Thomas Wilson; and two sons: Shawn Phillips and Michaeldeon Talley.
