

Patricia Anne Woodland, 76, of Washington DC, transitioned into eternal rest on Sunday September 20, 2020. Patricia was born on January 4, 1944 in Washington DC, where she grew up and spent her life up until her final day. Patricia was the eldest of 11 children born to the late Ruth Mae Taylor.
Patricia was educated in the District of Columbia Public School system where she graduated from Spingarn High School. Patricia loved school from an early age and often told of how she traveled to school by herself on a snow closure day because she wanted to go so badly and did not believe it was closed. She spent the first part of her career at Bergman’s laundry service and then transitioned to the food service industry where she remained until retirement.
Soon after graduation Patricia married her childhood sweetheart the late James R. Woodland Sr., they remained married until his death in 1988. Once married, Patricia and James began to travel to different parts of the country together while he was serving in the United States Airforce. Upon completion of his military service James and Patricia purchased their family house in SW Washington DC. That house would become home to their four children affectionately known as Ricky (Fahim), David, Tony, and Bobby; and a host of family and friends over the last 50 years.
Patricia was a loving person who was deeply devoted to her children, grandchildren, and family. She never missed a time to support her children and grandchildren in all their achievements and events. She was dedicated to her loved ones in good times and bad and could be counted on to help in any way she could. Patricia never missed her children and grandchildren’s birthday’s and would always remember to call and sing happy birthday to them. She very much enjoyed collecting various things and particularly liked angels and unique collectable dolls. In her younger years she enjoyed dancing and loved crabs, beer, and family gatherings. She was always up for a good card game with family and friends and liked traveling to casinos when she had the opportunity. In her later years Patricia enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family. Patricia was the pillar of the Woodland family and the SW community and will be deeply missed by all.
A loving and dedicated mother and grandmother, Patricia is survived by her three devoted sons Fahim Shabazz, Kevin A Woodland Sr., and Nathaniel R Woodland Sr. (Vernell) thirteen grandchildren Kevin Jr, Kashae, Brittany, Nathaniel Jr, Kevell, David Jr, Donnell, Saniyah, Aaliyah, Miles, Tricity, Bruce, and Nalani, one great-grand daughter Kali and a host of sisters, brothers, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
