Richard departed this life on June 11, 2025. Though we were not able to be by his side, his memory will be cherished forever by all who loved him. Richard was deeply loved, and his presence brought warmth, laughter, and strength to every room he entered.
Richard Lee Carter Jr. was born on December 8, 1968, in Washington, D.C., to Richard L. Carter Sr. and Gladys Mitchell Carter.
Richard graduated from Wilson High School in Washington, D.C., and devoted over 17 years to the hospitality industry, working at respected institutions including Hyatt, Marriott, and the Veterans Administration Hospital. He was known for his reliability, warmth, and generosity in every space he entered.
On September 8, 2007, Richard married his soulmate, Helena Denham Carter. Their union was one of laughter, strength, and unshakable devotion. Together they raised three beautiful children: Jada Lee, Demarco Taylor Carter, and Jamie Carter.
Richard is also survived by his loving sister, Nicole L. Carter; his treasured grandmother, Gladys Mitchell, age 100; and nieces and nephews Anthony, Kennea, Kameya, Kenneth, and Nicolas. He will be deeply missed by his aunts and uncle, Valerie Sigwalt, Antoinette Mitchell, and Ronald Mitchell, and a host of other family members and friends.
Richard had lifelong best friends who were more like brothers, Victor and Michael, who stood beside him as best men in his wedding and throughout his life. Their bond reflected the kind of man Richard was: loyal, grounded, and full of heart.
He was a proud Washingtonian and an unwavering fan of the Washington Commanders. Richard loved sports, especially football and basketball, enjoyed playing pool, smoking and collecting cigars, and fixing things around the house in his own way. He was the kind of man who would give his last to help someone else and loved fiercely and without limits.
