Robert Irvin Moorman, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024, at the age of 85. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Robert lived a full life, finding joy in family, music, and sports.
For 61 years, he was married to the love of his life, Ronnie Lee Moorman, who preceded him in death. Their love was an enduring example of loyalty and partnership, a bond that touched everyone around them. Robert was also preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Moorman, his beloved son, Gerald (Jerry) Wayne Moorman, Sr., and his cherished granddaughter, Heather Yvonne.
Robert was a lifelong Washington Redskins fan and could often be found cheering them on from his favorite chair. He had a passion for music, especially the guitar, which he played with enthusiasm for many years. Known for his love of good food and fellowship, he was a regular at Mountain Gate Restaurant in Thurmont, where he enjoyed meals with family and friends at least twice a week.
He is survived by his sons, Robert Michael (Mike) Moorman, Sr. and Gary Dwayne Moorman (Lisa), as well as his devoted daughter-in-law, Rose (Jaye) Moorman. Robert’s legacy lives on through his grandchildren—Mikey Jr., James, Andrew, Jerry Jr. (Megan), Greg (Sydney), Chris, Jessica, Danielle, Matthew (Taylor), and Sean—and his great-grandchildren—Cheyanna, Joshua, Kaylee, Emily, Jade, Sophia, Amanda, Jackson, Mikey III., Bryson, Anthony, Oliver, and Eleanor. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.
A funeral service will be held to honor Robert’s life on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, with visitation for extended family and friends at 10:00 AM at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, MD 20722. Memorial services will be held immediately afterward. The burial will take place at Fort Lincoln Cemetery.
Robert’s family, friends, and all who knew him will forever remember his kindness, humor, and dedication to his family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
