

Robert Erwin Twitty, Sr., affectionately called Bobby by family and Twitty by friends, was called home on March 20, 2025, He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and kindness. Born on April 16, 1936, in Kings Mountain, NC, Twitty lived a life full of hard work, passion, and unwavering commitment to his family and friends.
Education and athletics were an essential part of his life's journey. Twitty attended Lincoln Academy in Kings Mountain where he excelled in football, basketball, and track and field. He enlisted in the Army and became a 2nd, Lieutenant. Before entering the Army, he furthered his studies at North Carolina A&T University, where he also played football. His love for the sport never faded, and he remained a devoted fan of the Washington Redskins, later the Washington Commanders. He often noted that he rooted for two teams, the Redskins/Commanders and whoever was playing the Cowboys.
He was a dedicated employee at Washington Hospital Center, where he worked as an Animal Technician for over 25 years.
In May 1969, he married Sarah Mae Craven, his devoted wife, who was called home in 2004. Together, they built a life filled with love and strong bonds. They shared their love of football and card games, often hosting card parties and backyard barbeques. In the later years, they spent time doing weekly Sudoku and trivia puzzles together. Sarah Mae even convinced him to take a hand dancing class, which they enjoyed doing together.
Twitty also enjoyed life’s quieter moments, often finding joy in playing solitaire and spending time with loved ones. He never missed an opportunity to tell a corny joke, many of which he would repeat often.
Twitty leaves behind his cherished children: Beverly Kirby (Kirk Kirby), Keith Norford, Sr. (Linda Norford), Karen Joy, Sharon Twitty, Robert Twitty, Jr., and Michael Walker. He was a proud grandfather to Keone Norford, Keith Norford, Jr., LaVenta Norford, Danielle Bryant, Megan Joy, Dominic Twitty, Taylor Frazier, and Tyler Jackque, as well as a great-grandfather to many. Bobby is also survived by his beloved aunts, Rebecca Wallace and Claudette Caudell, and his dear siblings, Delores Moore, Theresa Gabriel, Deborah Gordon, Sharon Edwards, and Tyrone Tucker. His extended family of nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and countless friends will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
His presence, wisdom, and laughter will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on through the love he shared with all who knew him.
