Ronald was born on January 14, 1950 to June Lorraine Hawkins in Fairmont Heights, Md. He graduated from Fairmont Heights High School in 1968 where he participated in activities such as playing the bass clarinet in the marching band, and playing on the championship basketball team. He then attended Bowie State College where he met the love of his life Tanya Joseph in 1970, and they wed on December 23, 1973. From their union they became the proud and devoted parents of two children, a son, Khari and daughter Saron.
In 1976, Ronald began his 33 year career as a dedicated employee at the United States Postal Service. His family was always in awe at how he could recite the zip code of any city in the DMV area.
Ronald will always be remembered for his friendly, kind, playful and humorous spirit. Everywhere he went near or far, he often heard someone call out “Hawk” followed by a warm embrace by someone he knew from the past. He was a huge fan of all things sports, and was a dedicated Washington Redskins and Wizards fan. For family gatherings, Ronald was always asked to prepare his famous potato salad and deviled eggs, and he proudly did just that.
He also enjoyed numerous trips to the Caribbean Islands with his wife, with his favorite island being Jamaica.
Ronald leaves to cherish his memory: his daughter Saron Hawkins; his daughter in law Tiffany Hawkins, grandson Joron, his nephew Diallo Foster and Niece Joy Liggon, grand niece Naima and grand nephew King. He is also survived by his 2nd cousin Tara Eggleston Stewart (Brian) and son Cayden and a host of other relatives and friends he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his wife Tanya J. Hawkins, his son Khari S. Hawkins, his “brother” Louis Eggleston Jr., and his cherished aunt Virginia Eggleston and uncle Louis Eggleston Sr.
A memorial gathering for Sheron will be held Saturday, June 17, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Following the memorial gathering will be a memorial service at 12:00 PM at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home.
