Vernell Dixon Neal

Our beloved Vernell Carol Dixon Neal entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 16, 2022, at approximately 10:00 PM at the ProMedica Senior Care, Silver Spring, Maryland 20905. Vernell was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia on August 22, 1941, to the late Lewis Hobert Dixon and Cleopatra Stone Dixon.

She joined Countyline Baptist Church at an early age and always looked forward to attending her home church every 4th Sunday in August for the homecoming until her health started declining. Vernell united in holy matrimony to the late Robert Allen Neal. To this union, two children were born which are Robert Neal, Jr., and Jonathan Neal.

Vernell received her high school education at Northside High and after graduating, she moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Morgan State University.

After completing her education at Morgan State University, she moved to Washington DC where she became gainfully employed on her one and only job at the Department of Transportation (DOT) (Federal Civil Service). She climbed the ladder of success with DOT and thus achieving the position of Budget Analyst, where she became part of the management team. After more than 41- years of government service with DOT, Vernell retired.

While working in the federal government, she also became a successful entrepreneur, acquiring several real-estate properties in the District of Columbia. Working her real-estate properties really became a passion after retirement. She was very proud of her accomplishments and always willing to try to help others who was less fortunate.

Another one of her passions was reading to the kids at the neighborhood elementary school where her children attended. It was her way of paying it forward.

Vernell enjoyed reading the newspaper from cover to cover each and every day and could keep you abreast of All Current Affairs.

The following siblings preceded her in death; Walter Dixon, Charlie Dixon, Beatrice Wille “Peach” Dixon, Lewis “Bug’ Dixon, Clevester “Shuck” Dixon and Faye Dixon Boone.

Remaining to cherish her memory: two sons, Robert Neal Jr., and Johnathan Neal both of the home, one brother, Hobert Dixon of Washington DC, two aunts, Amanda Dixon, Landover, Md, Doris Dixon of Burlington, NJ. one sister-n-law, Frances Dixon of Capitol Heights, Maryland one nephew/ brother Gerald Coles and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
