Veronica Lee Miller
September 7, 1951–August 31, 2025
Veronica Lee Miller, affectionately known as “Ba’ Sis” or “Ronni,” was born in Washington, D.C., the youngest daughter of eight children to the late Robert and Catherine Miller. A proud graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School (class of 1970), she went on to dedicate her life to education, child care, and family.
She married Bernard W. Greenhow Sr., and together they welcomed their beloved son, Bernard Jr. Veronica was a devoted mother who balanced multiple jobs while ensuring her son felt deeply loved and supported.
Her passion for working with children led to a fulfilling 30-plus-year career in education, including time at Garnet-Patterson Junior High and various schools in Alexandria City Public Schools in Virginia, where she worked primarily with children on the autism spectrum. She also spent over 15 years at St. Ann’s Infant and Maternity Home in D.C., where her kindness and humor left a lasting impact.
After retiring, she continued giving back as a volunteer "grandma" with the Foster Grandparents Program in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
Veronica had a vibrant personality and loved collecting miniature high-heeled shoes, solving puzzles, watching her soaps (All My Children and General Hospital), and spending time with her family at crab feasts, vacations, and dinners out.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Sr. and Catherine (Lee) Miller; her former husband, Bernard W. Greenhow Sr.; her sisters, Shirley Miller and Fay Carter; and her brother, Dale Miller.
She is survived by her beloved son, Bernard W. Greenhow Jr. (Monika); grandchildren, Bernard Christian (Kristine), Symrin Monique, Bernard III, and Saniya Angelique; and great-grandchildren, Christian and Jalen. She is also survived by her brothers, Robert Jr. (Mary “Cookie”), Michael (Demarius), Arthur (Pauline), and Jessie (the late Abranda); her sister-in-love, Maxine Robinson; and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
Veronica will be remembered for her compassion, strength, joyful spirit, and open heart.
