

Weaver Augustus Shepperson, Jr., of Washington, DC, entered eternal rest peacefully on May 11, 2020 at Providence Hospice. Weaver was born on April 7, 1931, in Prince George County, Virginia, to Weaver Augustus Shepperson, Sr. and Ruth Jones Shepperson.
Shortly after enrolling at Virginia State College (University), Weaver was drafted to the U.S. Army where he proudly served as a paratrooper at the rank of Sergeant from 1953-1959. After serving in the Army, he worked as an electrician for the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, retiring in 1963 after losing his sight. Despite his blindness, Weaver became proficient in amateur radio and was widely known in the ham radio community by his call sign “WB3KIC.” For many decades, Weaver was a dedicated member of the OMIK Amateur Radio Association, Inc., the largest predominantly African-American amateur radio association in the country.
Weaver was a faithful member of Mount Joy Baptist Church in Washington, DC. He was well respected and loved by all. Those who knew him describe him as a true gentleman, humble, kind and a gentle soul.
In addition to his parents, Weaver was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva A. Shepperson, and his brother, Willie M. Shepperson.
Mr. Shepperson is survived by his two sisters, Doris Shepperson Fuller of Petersburg, VA and Dr. Jacqueline Ruth Shepperson of Hopewell, Virginia; sister-in-law, Shirley C. Shepperson of Petersburg, VA; devoted nephews Dr. Stanley M. Shepperson of Washington DC, Steven D. Shepperson of South Chesterfield, VA, and Arthur S. Fuller (Tina) of Ashburn, VA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
