

Willie James Gibson, 89, peacefully left this world on March 2, 2021 at Doctors Community Hospital in Lanham, Maryland. He lived a fulfilling life as a father, husband, brother and friend. He loved God and regularly attended the New Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Capitol Heights until his illness. He considered his greatest accomplishments to be his daughters and being ordained as a deacon in the 1960s.
Deacon Gibson was born in Americus, Georgia and worked on his grandparent’s farm. He later moved north where he married the late Lillie Belle (Brown) Gibson in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1956. The couple settled in Capitol Heights, Maryland in 1972 with their twin daughters, Carol and Caroline. Deacon Gibson was a gifted carpenter and retired in 1994 to care for his ailing wife who died from cancer.
In addition to his daughters, Carol J and Caroline G Gibson, Deacon Gibson is survived by three sisters, Jerline Callender, Marion Kelley and Phyllis Head; one brother, Frank Gibson; and a host of family and friends.
