

On September 11, 2022, Willie Washington was suddenly taken from our midst to live with his Lord. Willie was born to the late Waldof Washington and Emily Smith Washington in Washington, D. C.. He spent most of his childhood years in Washington, D.C.. He attended Cardoza Senior High School in Washington , D.C..
In the early 1970's he enlisted into the United States Army, where he served 26 active years. After leaving the military, Willie went to work for the United States Postal Service for 15 years. After retiring from the United States Postal Service, he enjoyed working with the Combat Veterans and the Purple Heart Association. In May 2017, he was awarded Patriot of the Year by General George L. Mabry Chapter 817 of Sumter County Veterans Association.
In 2015, he was joined in matrimony to his beloved wife, Willie Mae McGee until he was called home. Willie was devoted to his family and friends. He looked forward to holiday gatherings. His major outdoor sport was fishing. He loved watching football and baseball. Even though he loved sports he never selected a favorite team. The winner was always fine with him.
Will was preceded in death by his father, mother, two sons, five sisters, and three brothers. Left to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Willie Mae Washington: one son, Patrick Smith of Denver, Colorado; one daughter, Queen Abney of Washington, D.C., and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends, and his favorite cat, Koloji.
