

Emery Lee Sherfey, 75, of Bayard, passed away Monday, July 27, 2015 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. At his request, there will be no visitation. Casual attire is preferred for his funeral service which will be held at 1 PM on Friday, July 31, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport with Reverend Jonathan Berosek officiating. Interment will follow at the Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery at Bridgeport. Memorials may be given to the Bayard Boy Scouts. Emery was born November 25, 1939 at Lewellen, Nebraska to Melvin and Phyllis (Thompson) Sherfey. He graduated from Bridgeport High School and attended college in Scottsbluff on a football scholarship. Emery then began working for Great Western Sugar as a Beet End Foreman until he retired. He moved to Bayard in 1961 where he resided until his death.
Emery was active in the community in his younger years, involved in baseball and 4-H. He enjoyed playing cards and gambling in his retirement as well as spending time with his family. He also enjoyed raising livestock and his dog with no name.
Emery is survived by his wife Patsy Sherfey; seven children; brother Dale (Kathy) Sherfey; sister Carol (Jim) Tucker; brothers-in-law Harry (Anne) Heath and Gene Heath; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
Emery was preceded in death by his parents, son, and step-father.
