He is survived by his loving wife Sherri, twin brother Harold Jr., and John (Kay) Brandt, sisters Mary (Wayne) Wendorf, Sharon (Mike) Baughman, children Dianne (Mark) Fullerton, Donna (Alan) Kissler, Jason (Karrie) Brandt and Amy (Shannon) Theall, grandchildren Kayla, Alex, Anya, Nola, Maci, Levi, and his best canine friend, Mater. He is preceded in death by parents Harold Sr. and Martha Brandt, and sisters Irene, Helen, Linda and Betty.
Born July 19, 1944 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jerry was kind, generous and incredibly hardworking. As a teenager, he followed in his father’s footsteps and began working as a manual laborer for Neu’s Supply Line unloading train cars in the lumber yard. In 1966 he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served from 1966 to 1968. From 1966 to 1967 he served in the Vietnam War as supply delivery driver. Upon the completion of his service in the U.S. military, he returned to work for Neu’s Supply Line where he continued to be employed for over 50 years. He later picked up a secondary job working for W&E Radtke Perennial Nursery where he was employed for 24 1/2 years. Jerry lived to support his family with everything he had.
Jerry loved classic country music, jokes (both good and bad), and yard work. Among his favorite activities were scaring squirrels away from his bird feeders, “cawing” back at crows, and using his leaf blower. He loved leaf blowers so much, in fact, that when he took his Honor Flight to DC in 2019, he stopped to watch the grounds crew at Arlington National Cemetery use theirs. Jerry also had a soft spot for animals, including his children’s pets, which he lovingly referred to as his “grand-dogs”. Bacon cheeseburgers and an ice cold Mountain Dew were among his favorite, but nothing made him smile quite like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.
